![]() ![]() You'll get some biased opinions of course (I always like when someone posts a "what's the best" question on the Index forum and someone replies "what did you expect to read here?", but hopefully varied and honest enough to help guide your decision. If you haven't already, check out the Reddit Valve Index forum and forums for other VR kits. Though as if often mentioned on the Index forum, people are more likely to write when things go wrong than when things go right, so it can give a possibly distorted view of how often hardware does go bad. Complaints about having to RMA hardware seem more common with the Index (though I'm not on a Quest forum, maybe it's a complaint there also). ![]() Why its great: This subscription-based adult online multiplayer platform gives. My observation after some time on this and the Valve Index forums: Complaints about comfort, game play, tracking, and other factors related to the "experience" seem far more common with the Quest than the Index. This takes cybersex in AOL chat rooms to a whole new level. Why is the Index still so damned expensive after four years? Because it's surprisingly still so damned good four years later and there are enough enthusiasts that are willing to pay the price for what they know they'll be getting, so Valve hasn't needed to discount it in order to keep moving units. The biggest downside are the controllers and FOV. It's on sale all the time for like 300-500. but has the incredible Valve Index head strap and built in speakers. It has the high resolution and inside out tracking of the Pico 4. Though if/when the rumoured Deckard is released I wouldn't be surprised if it will be the iPhone 5 when other companies are still making the iPhone 2 and 3. The original Meta Quest VR headset was a breath of fresh air with its 6DOF head and controller tracking, strong performance, and, most importantly, standalone functionality. Honestly the Reverb G2 is a mix of the Pico 4 and Index. When the iPhone 2 came out (call that the upcoming Big Screen) it didn't make the iPhone 1 (the Index) obsolete overnight. Age.I always say that it was so far ahead of its time when it was released in 2019 it was like Valve had developed an iPhone when other companies were still making flip phones. ![]() I know the lower resolution compared to other headsets is often mentioned, but there's a whole lot more to the VR experience than pixels. I'm glad you used the term "experience" because there may be better "headsets" now and on the horizon, but the combo of the headset, controllers, base station tracking, comfort, audio, FOV, 's still at or towards the top of the class. With the caveat you wrote "don't care about the price" (and assuming you mean paying around $1000 rather than $300-$500 and not several thousand $$$$), and if you're good with cords and base stations, my admittedly biased opinion is that the Index is still the best overall VR experience right now. ![]()
